FIRST, I STARTED THE LOW FAT DIET. THEN CALORIE COUNTING. THEN I HEARD ABOUT THIS ATKINS DUDE WHO SAID FATS WERE GOOD AND CARBS WEREN'T. AND THEN, I HEARD WE WERE SUPPOSED TO EAT LIKE A CAVE MAN. THEN IT WAS KETO. THE ZONE. MACROS. AND FINALLY VEGAN.

I was so confused. My rules kept changing each week. I was fearing food and socializing because of it.

And worst of all, I had secretly developed a binge eating behaviour. Of course, I thought it was just "cheat day." But it always left me so guilty, and shameful, bloated, and beyond disappointed in myself. I had created a completely disordered relationship with food.

And no amount of meal prepping, rules, discipline, or accountability could get me stop. It actually kept making it worse.

But they say things happen for you and not to you.

Watch out! We’re about to nerd out for just a minute, but it’s all about to make sense!

NERVOUS SYSTEM? WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN?!

More specifically, your Autonomic Nervous System. The one that’s responsible for involuntary actions like your heart beat, breathing, digestion to name a few. AND your thoughts and emotions.

This nervous system is in one of two states;Β 

  1. Sympathetic, which is that fight, flight, or freeze mode we hear about. But you’ll hear us refer to this state in the Make Peace With Foodℒ️ program as β€œProtection Mode” because your body is literally doing things out of your control - using your reptilian brain - to try and protect you. Ironically (even though it doesn't always feel that way), it’s lovingly just trying to ensure your survival. Or...
  2. Parasympathetic, which is that β€œrest and digest” mode. This is your natural state actually.Β  Where the body can digest, heal AND release weight.Β  It’s also when you can be calm, joyful and creative. We refer to this state as β€œSafety Mode” in the Make Peace With Foodℒ️ program, because your body feels safe from real, or perceived threat.Β 

When you’re in Protection Mode, your body is trying to ensure survival.Β  And so it does this by (1) slowing your metabolism way down to conserve energy that your body thinks it needs to survive AND (2) turns on the natural binge mechanism to make you crave high calorie, high sugar foods for quick, instant energy.Β  Yes, you read that right.Β  Part of the reptilian brain is a natural ability to withstand famine and then feast! Plus to further ensure survival, it makes movement feel so heavy and hard. So that way you move less and use less energy.

Your body locks you into Protection Mode in response to unresolved trauma (emotional, physical or sexual) and when you are experiencing prolonged food scarcity.Β  Which can either be real - as in literally, there was no food to eat at times and you had to go to bed hungry.Β  Or it can also be imposed food scarcity - like when you crash diet, and restrict your food intake or food groups!

THE GOOD NEWS IS...

It’s completely reversible! But the way out will NEVER be through more dieting, controlling your food or weight, or shaming your body to success!Β  In fact, stop that!Β  If you decide to not join the CommunEATy (which if you’re reading up until this point, you totally know this is for you) then let this be your one take away: you can’t shame or hate yourself to results and love.

And so this is the old pattern you’ve been running: You realise you gained weight, you get mad at yourself, think your body is so gross and so f-a-t (I don’t ever say that word) and then you restrict your food, measure everything out, and weigh yourself obsessively and feel disappointed and stressed when it’s not moving down fast enough or when you ate something bad.

This is all going to depend on how much support you need.

If you are a self-study-do-it-yourself person, then the Course Only option may work for you.

The Course Only option gives you access to the MPWF course where you'll have a weekly lesson and assignment to follow. **Note, that you'll have to purchase the MPWF workbook separately for this option.

It's up to you, but if budget allows, I'll always recommend you join any of the other plans that also offers weekly live coaching support.

The CommunEATy is a great option if you're on a tight budget. This will give you access to the course, a private community that's on a platform away from social media, and weekly group coaching calls on Wednesdays at 4pm EST.
